You are provided with 3 options for backup - your local drive, a trusted computer, or the CrashPlan cloud which is a paid subscription or all three.

The first 2 options are totally free and enable fast backup to an external drive without worrying about data caps or network speeds. Double-down by utilizing multiple offsite locations, such as other network computers or of friends and family in order to keep your files safe in case one location becomes compromised. You could also try to change central.

I did let gfjardim's container update to the PRO. Before turning the container off I checked it out and saw that it was upgraded blue color and Pro written somewhere. After that I turned the container off and followed the readme in the first post of this thread. I guess I didn't read well since I now notice you were supporting transition from your own crashplan home container Ah so if you didn't convert your appdata from gfjardim's container , you need to do it before:.

All docker template values are default, except that you need to add a new "Path" to match the old container:. Anyway I did the adoption step and all is good now. Thanks for your repeated help. First of all, thank you for this docker. The instructions to move over from gfjardim's docker were clear and my migration went without a hitch. Secondly, I may have missed something in the settings but if not, I have a feature request Would it be possible to have a similar field added to your docker?

My unassigned device is the only folder sitting in the cloud that has a red "Missing" next to it. I'm aware I could back up locally to the array and then back that new folder up to Crashplan, but if I can keep it simple I'd like to. You can add the same field in the container's settings: you need to add a "Path". This setting is not present by default, since it is causing issues for people who doesn't have the unassigned devices plugin.

Followed the above. When I got to the part about adoption, I accidentally closed the grey banner with the adoption link and couldn't find it again. I attempted using "guid new" command from the gui command prompt. Now I'm getting the login screen, but no matter what I do, I get failed login. I reset my password, and I can successfully login to the official windows client and the website, but I cannot login via the docker. If you had the grey banner with the adoption link, then something went wrong with the appdata conversion.

This should fix your login issue and your missing adoption link. Thanks, that solved the authentication issue. However for step 5 of the "Taking Over Existing Backup" The only way I can see to add them is to deselect them, save, then add them again but it seems like this would delete the backup archives and force me to reupload them? Update the file selection by re-adding your files. Do not unselect missing items yet.

The missing items are the only things I care about backing up. I use the command provided to terminate access to the service, but the engine of the application still keeps chugging away. It's totally out of my control, and I don't like that. I am waiting for some tech support to see if I can get a hold of this monster and take control back into my own hands. I don't even know if that is possible, but I am tied of hearing it accessing my hard drives all the time.

Please stop, CrashPlan! Please, give it a rest! Jancakv Jan 26 Realy great app for backup, big space for data, OK price. But Java app is tragedy.

I hate Java. Javy is slow and hungry for RAM. Please make native app for OS X. It would be amazing. I am three years user your service.

Jeremyan Dec 4 Fairly easy to use. The client is a major pain. The client is not native, it is Java. They promised a native client but never released. Although my Macs have a lot of memory and this doesn't really affect the performance much, it is still a poor design. I hope they address this. Macs-Pain Nov 30 No chance to get connected with a friend. He can not get connected with me. Any ideas? I still use CrashPlan, but I'm aching for a native client.

Drdul Feb 13 New version 3. The app will autoupdate, but to get the benefit of the built-in Java you have to uninstall and then reinstall CrashPlan. JoeR Feb 12 It works; it functions as advertised. It's cheap. It works. But wow. The software itself is crap. First, it slows down my Macbook Pro a lot. That's crazy, by any applications' standards.

Next, I get kbps upload on it. That's horrible. I'm still trying to find out how to stop the bottleneck. Other than that, it works, and I have no real complaints.

Madison-mac Jun 4 Does anyone have version 3. I accidentally deleted my copy and Crashplan for Crashplan support won't give me another copy of the installer that will run on Ajmac25 May 2 I switched from Arq with Amazon service to CrashPlan.

The menu-bar part works fine but if I try to actually open the CrashPlan app, it just "bounces" in the dock and never opens. I have reported this to CrashPlan and after several emails, uninstall and reinstalls, it will work intermittently. No problems with any other apps on my MacBook Pro. I have not had to use the restore feature yet and hopefully never will, but back up seem to work fine. I just wish they would fix the app issue. Robert-Morton Mar 25 While I can understand the desire not to have java on a system, I love Crashplan.

Have been using it for more than a year and will resubscribe next year if they keep working flawlessly. It runs in the background and I never notice it. I can restore any of my files to my iPad or my iPhone or any other device for easy access from anywhere. I really could not ask for more, and yet it offers other features that I don't even use like backing up to other computers.

Pmcarrion Mar 21 According to the release notes, CrashPlan 3. Madison-mac Dec 30 The 'restore' speed can be slow - but I think it depends on what the Crashplan servers can handle. Not sure if they purposely throttle or maybe they are just overloaded. But had I known that it forces me to install Java on all the machines I want to backup I probably would have passed… The UI is just as ugly as every other Java based app I've been forced to use over the years and I really find Java to be a big fat security hole to begin with…!

Rochade Nov 25 The best online backup tool I found. I switched from mozy to crash plan because it is faster, more secure and it simply works. After I lost all my files with mozy, I had to look for an alternative and found it in crash plan. It securely saves your encrypted files at any location you want local, friends machine, online. And it is free for personal use. You only pay a subscription if you want to store your backup online on crashplan's server.

The only thing that isn't perfect yet is the RAM usage. Acricketer1 Nov 25 Tried to buy online to take advantage of the Black Friday offer and the payment page just froze.

Mac-Update-udyn Oct 10 It is an excellent product at a phenomenal price. Pmcarrion Aug 15 Desker Jul 9 If I had reviewed CrashPlan only a couple of weeks ago I would have given it five stars. For two years I backed up and recovered files I now have more than GB stored without a problem.

And the ease of use and price was extremely good. But when I did have a recent glitch, and CrashPlan stopped backing up and I largely lost touch with my backup, I went to CrashPlan support for help.

Here I am 11 days later and I have had exactly three communications from CrashPlan support, two from Tier 1 one of which was merely to tell me I was being handed over to Tier 2 and one from Tier 2 In that time I was offered two possible fixes, neither of which worked. The last I heard from them was four days ago, despite constant updating by me as to what was happening. Today, I noticed CrashPlan is finally backing up again and, it says, in a couple of hours I should once again be totally backed up.

Well, good, that's a relief, but I now worry that it will happen again and that I will deal with sluggish to put it the kindest way I can CrashPlan support. Granted CrashPlan now warns users on its web site that support will be slow: "We are working diligently to resolve the delayed response times and apologize for the inconvenience. Gtcaz May 31 On Lion Bunam May 8 Aside from some minor glitchy interface behavior, CrashPlan is a fairly simple backup utility.

I successfully created a backup from 2 Macs and 1 PC to an external drive on a third Mac. My biggest complaint with this software, is it's speed. This thing is slow as molasses on an internal Gigabit network. Backing up GB from one drive to another, on the same machine, will take approximately 10 hours.

I'm not sure how it's doing it's backup, but it certainly is NOT taking advantage of my Gigabit backbone network. I know someone who signed up for the Crashplan monthly service, they have a Verizon DSL connection, which is inherently slow anyway. They successfully backed up approximately 75Gigs of information, but it took well over a month to complete.

Rochade Mar 28 Never had any problem. One feature to not miss: there is not only 1 backup destination like with other online backup tools. You can add as many destinations local disc, servers, client machines, online storage as you want.

Madison-mac Mar 17 I would like to see this feature added: Be able to see list of files waiting to be backed up. Maybe with option to remove from backup set from list. Gary-box Mar 17
